Editorial

Dear Member of the SIGMM Community,

Welcome to the second issue of the ACM SIG Multimedia Records!

In this issue, we can present to you the new board of ACM SIG Multimedia. The election results have been announced on June 21, less then ten days before the publication of this issue, but the new board members can already announce some of their plans for the following period in this issue. Find out about the new board in this issue.

In other news, two conferences are presented in more detail that are newly SIGMM-sponsored. There is CIVR, the International Conference on Content-based Image and Video Retrieval, which has been held for several years, but has become a SIGMM-sponsored conference in 2008. This issue of the Records contains a report from the 2008 conference, including quick links to the conference papers in the Digital Library. The other is MMSys, the Multimedia Systems Conference, that is newly created and that will be held for the first time in February 2010. In this issue, you will find its call for papers, and you can also read about the reasons for the creation of this brand new conference.

Fresh from the ACM Multimedia TPC workshop, we have received news of a new database that is freely available for researchers in video quality assessment, and are of course including links to it.

In this issue we fulfil our promise to republish the PhD thesis summaries of those PhD students who submitted them for the last issue of the old (and unarchived) SIGMM eNewsletter, and we are of course proving you with quick links to the latest calls for papers in multimedia.

We hope that you enjoy this latest issue of the SIGMM Records!
